English
Our English series is designed strategically; to provide a varied range of integrated learning material. It is also ideally suited as an extension series written at an internationally recognised standard.
Each learner book provides for the exploration and integration of the stated objectives within the fiction and non-fiction genres.
The clear and correct introduction to objectives forms the basis on which to build the integration of the new objective into reading, writing, speaking and listening tasks, that follow.
Activities encapsulate lower-order and higher-order thinking skills. In addition, the systematic spiral approach should ensure that each learner reaches mastery, by the end of a stage.
Fiction
- Simple stories, traditional tales, myths and legends, adventure stories, real-life stories, mystery, and fables.
- Poetry: Traditional rhymes, humorous poems, and poems with different structures.
- Drama: playscripts
Non-Fiction
- Chosen to display the key features of the genre.
- Informative texts; chronological and non-chronological.
- Recounts, instructions and procedures.
- Reports as well as persuasive text, and explanations.
*Sight words and phonics are included only as far as the activities assist the learner to develop skills that are highlighted in the objectives. The included sight words and phonics do not replace your chosen phonics programme.
STAGE 1 LEARNER BOOK A
HUMPTY DUMPTY AND WIZZ THE WIZARD
Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening objectives are integrated to support their mutual development.
Humpty Dumpty is an active egg; indeed, reviewing and rehearsing prior knowledge that is recommended for the learner beginning primary school.
The traditional rhyme ‘Humpty Dumpty’ forms the basis for the rest of the book – with a twist. Wizz the Wizard puts Humpty back together again. The story continues when Wizz insists that Humpty must go to Forest School, to check his head.
On the way to Forest School – Humpty meets the noun family and rhymes common nouns.

JACK, THE PIRATES AND THE BLUE MERMAID
Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening objectives are integrated to support their mutual development.
Written for year 3 learners, this adventure story follows a poor boy named Jack who leaves his mother’s inn for a year to join a band of merry pirates on board the Blue Mermaid. Before he leaves home, he must learn about a pirate sailing ship, write a poem about ships, and record facts about ships. He also follows an instruction text to make lemonade with his mother.
When Jack arrives at the quay, the illustration provides for a rich opportunity to write a ‘show don’t tell’ experience. Writing a vivid scene – using the five senses is encouraged. This type of activity is found throughout the book.
