Mathematics

We have produced a series of books for Mathematics that encapsulate the best teaching strategies for this subject. Our focal point has been to introduce new objectives, clearly and correctly and to make sure the learners can review and rehearse these concepts throughout the book. We are confident in our material and believe that these books can be used as an effective tool to support the needs of both the teacher and each learner. Teachers can use these books to enhance lesson plans, create interactive activities, and to ensure that all learners develop a solid understanding of early math concepts.

STAGE 1 – LEARNER BOOK A

We journey with Humpty Dumpty and friends to explore the first fundamental concepts of number.

Firstly, we explore the different ways a number can be represented: a number name, a symbol, a dice showing the number, the domino pattern showing the number, the tally mark or on a ten frame.

The learners will participate in numerous counting and sequence activities and will be introduced to addition as counting on or combining of two sets. Reading and writing numbers from 0 – 20 will be our focal point.

Recognising and sorting of 2D shapes will take place during our geometry section.

We will cap off our book with learning and reciting the days of the week and months of the year in order.

STAGE 2 – LEARNER BOOK A

Dora, Flora and Bee embark with us on a magical adventure as we kick off Year 2.

Building on the foundation set in Year 1, the children will increase their number range to 100. We focus on number: counting and numerical sequences.

Money is one of the exciting new concepts and we will be comparing values of different combinations.

Estimating, adding and subtracting numbers (up to 100) as well as place value and rounding are introduced.

We will start working with measuring and drawing lines, which will form a fundamental part of measuring activities in future.

All the while, we review the year 1 objectives with relevant activities.

STAGE 3 – LEARNER BOOK A

All aboard the Blue Mermaid with Jack and the pirates! We will roam the stormy waters of the ocean to become proficient with the Year 3 objectives.

The number range is increased to 1 000 during Year 3 as we continue sequence, estimating, addition and subtraction within this range. We will focus and extend our knowledge using the four operation and corresponding laws, which will enable our students to complete challenging calculations.

We will have lots of fun with money notation and the use of the decimal point is present this year whilst working with money.

Our students will start working with time intervals and this will lay the foundation for future problem solving with relevance to time.

This book also includes rehearsal activities on the prior knowledge of geometry and measure, fractions, time, diagrams and position and movement to keep the objectives in working memory.
